I need help. My challenge is to get the word out. How can I reach an audience that will cause change? Fundamentally it only needs to be the right person but, to get there I need to touch millions. I had hoped that this would be the venue. I had hoped that I could influence. I was quite naive in my approach and realize today that if I can’t generate outrage few will listen. Today we talk about a crisis, an epidemic. What I would share with you is that every family that has to endure this hardship is in crisis. For them this is very real and it is an epidemic.
When Brian was using not only was Brian in crisis but, the whole family was in crisis. The stress was unreal. I often marvel as I reflect back how we all came through it. The crisis was real and the crisis was very personal. Beyond that each of us new of someone or a family that was enduring the same hardships, the same pains. The crisis was in MY FACE. The crisis persists today. And while I am realistic about the ability to wipe out this plague, I am resolved to be a part of something that crates positive change.
Interesting tid-bit (sarcasm) — every day in the USA 115 persons die of an opiate related overdose (CDC, Center for Disease Control – 2017 stat). That is ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN innocent lives! Every day!! Of those, over 40% are prescription related. It’s staggering. And yet I ask myself where is the outrage? Where are the hashtags? Where is hollywood? and the superstars? Where is the $$#@%&^%^%$ media and all the talking heads? (morons) NO WHERE. And why not? For me it’s simple. However, I would challenge each of you to search out your answer. For me it’s clear that ultimately it’s not about innocent life.
So what that compels, is for me to find a way to get the word out. The word out, that Brian mattered. That for the majority of the 115 that die everyday this wasn’t a choice. The those 115 lives have value. That there really is a crisis and it’s not new and as a society we are losing.
So I ask you to help me spread the word – I need help……..
